Spaghetti with garlic, olive oil & red pepper flakes

How to prepare:
Bring a large pot of salted water to a boil. Add the pasta and cook according to the directions, stirring often. Drain, reserving 2 T. of the pasta water.
In a large saut pan, heat the oil over medium heat. Add the garlic and saut until golden, about 1 minute. Do not overcook garlic or it will become bitter. If you wish remove the garlic from the pan. Add the red pepper flakes and saut for 1 minute.
Stir in the reserved cooking water and tsp. of salt. Immediately add the drained pasta and toss until well coated. Add the basil and parsley and toss. Serve with a tossed salad and crusty bread. Italian sausage links are delicious to add with it as well. Enjoy!
- 1 lb. penne pasta
- Salt
- cup extra-virgin olive oil
- 5 garlic cloves peeled
- 1 T. dried crushed red pepper flakes *adjust to taste
- cup fresh flat leaf parsley
- 2 T. chopped fresh basil * I use dried
- * add sundried tomatoes, roasted red pepper, onions or mushrooms
